Electric Toothbrush or Manual Tooth Brush

This situation may seem familiar because it is one that many of our patients have described. You are at the store in need of a new toothbrush. You really like the idea of an electric toothbrush, but aren’t sure you are ready to go that route. You go to the toothbrush section hoping for an epiphany about which one is the best only to find out that there are 15 options that all have different features. Our of frustration and lack of information you pick up the $3 toothbrush you are used to and head for the checkout stand. Did you make the right choice? What is the best option when it comes to an electric toothbrush?

Keep the Plaque Under Control

It doesn’t have to be a matter of opinion, multiple studies have been done about the difference in effectiveness between electric and manual toothbrushes. While there are certainly variations between different toothbrushes, the overwhelming findings have been that electric toothbrushes do in fact remove plaque better than non-electric toothbrushes. This is not to say that you can’t get your teeth clean with a handheld toothbrush, just simply that an electric toothbrush has statistically better results.
