Your Same-Day Crown Solution Explained
Who Are Same-Day Crowns with CEREC® For?
Waiting weeks for a permanent crown while wearing a temporary one is frustrating and inconvenient for busy people. You might be ideal for CEREC® same-day crowns if you need crown treatment but want it completed in a single visit.
Busy Lifestyle
You have a packed schedule and can't afford multiple dental visits or time off work for traditional crown procedures that require several appointments.
Hate Temporary Crowns
You want to avoid wearing uncomfortable temporary crowns that can fall off, break, or cause problems while waiting for your permanent restoration.
Immediate Results
You need crown treatment but want to walk out with your final, permanent crown the same day instead of waiting weeks for completion.
Do Any of These Situations Sound Familiar to You?
- Busy Work Schedule: You can't take multiple days off work for dental appointments and need crown treatment completed in a single visit.
- Temporary Crown Problems: You've had bad experiences with temporary crowns falling off, breaking, or causing discomfort while waiting for permanent ones.
- Travel Frequently: Your work or lifestyle involves frequent travel, making it difficult to return for multiple appointments weeks apart for traditional crown procedures.
- Dental Anxiety: You prefer to get all your crown treatment done at once rather than worrying about returning for a second appointment.
- Special Event Coming: You have an important event, wedding, or presentation soon and need your crown completed immediately rather than waiting weeks.
- Hate Dental Impressions: Traditional gooey impressions make you gag or feel uncomfortable, and you'd prefer digital scanning technology instead.

Frequently Asked Questions
Same-Day Crown FAQs
Same-day crowns with CEREC® technology provide instant tooth restoration without temporary crowns or multiple visits. At Canyon Rim Dental, you’ll receive expertly crafted, permanent crowns in just one appointment.
What is CEREC® same-day crown technology?
CEREC® (Chairside Economical Restorations of Esthetic Ceramic) is an advanced system that designs, creates, and places your custom crown in a single appointment. Using digital scanning and computer-aided design, we can mill your crown from high-quality ceramic while you wait, eliminating the need for messy impressions, temporary crowns, and return visits.
How is a same-day crown different from a traditional crown?
The main difference is timing and convenience. Traditional crowns require multiple appointments over 2-3 weeks, with temporary crowns in between. Same-day crowns are completed in about 2 hours during one visit. The quality, durability, and appearance are essentially the same – you just get your permanent crown immediately instead of waiting weeks.
How long does the same-day crown process take?
The entire process typically takes 1.5-2.5 hours from start to finish. This includes tooth preparation, digital scanning, crown design, milling, and final placement. You can read, listen to music, or relax while your crown is being created. Many patients appreciate being able to complete their treatment in one convenient appointment.
Are same-day crowns as strong as lab-made crowns?
Yes! CEREC® crowns are made from the same high-quality ceramic materials as laboratory crowns and offer equivalent strength and durability. The computer-controlled milling process actually ensures very precise fit and consistent quality. Same-day crowns can last 15+ years with proper care, just like traditional crowns.
Will my same-day crown look natural?
Absolutely! We use advanced shade-matching technology to select ceramic that perfectly matches your natural teeth. The CEREC® system allows us to customize the shape, size, and surface texture to blend seamlessly with your smile. Most patients find their same-day crowns indistinguishable from their natural teeth.
What are the advantages of same-day crowns?
The biggest advantages are convenience and comfort. You avoid the hassle of temporary crowns that can break or fall off, eliminate the need for a second appointment, and get your permanent restoration immediately. There’s no sensitivity from temporary crowns, no dietary restrictions between visits, and no risk of the temporary crown failing before your permanent one is ready.
Are same-day crowns more expensive?
Same-day crowns are typically priced competitively with traditional crowns. While the technology investment is significant, you actually save time and money by avoiding multiple appointments, temporary crowns, and the inconvenience of return visits. Many patients find the convenience factor alone makes same-day crowns an excellent value.
Can any tooth receive a same-day crown?
Most teeth that need crowns are excellent candidates for same-day treatment. However, complex cases involving multiple crowns that need to match perfectly, or situations requiring specific bite adjustments might benefit from traditional laboratory fabrication. We’ll evaluate your specific situation and recommend the best approach for optimal results.
How do I care for my same-day crown?
Caring for your same-day crown is just like caring for your natural teeth. Brush twice daily, floss regularly, and avoid chewing on hard objects like ice. You can eat normally right after placement, though you may want to avoid very hot or cold foods initially if you experience any sensitivity, which typically resolves quickly.
What if I'm not happy with my same-day crown?
While complications are rare, we can make adjustments to your crown’s fit or bite immediately if needed. The beauty of same-day crowns is that we can address any concerns during your appointment rather than waiting weeks for changes. If significant modifications are needed, we can create a new crown the same day using the digital design as a starting point.

This place is great! Everyone is super nice and Dr. Milne is the best!I came with a bunch of issues and Dr. Milne was completely understanding and helped me map out what was needed and listened to any concerns I had, while offering advice on what he thinks would be a good idea to take care of first. Dr. Milne is there for you 100% and is never condescending or rude.I want to stress that nobody here will make you feel bad about your teeth, they all want to help you and get your smile where it should be, so don’t be afraid and take that first step to better health. After having a Tooth Extraction on the weekend, I returned later in the week for a note from the doctor for work release. I had realized that there are two Dental Businesses working within the facility, & contacting Weekend Dental wasn’t so straight forward. Kim, who was sitting at the front desk helped me immensely, as I was worried about if I’d receive a doctor’s note on time to return to work in a couple of hours. However, Kim went above & beyond to help, she used the knowledge & connections she has to get me in touch with the staff, to receive my doctors note in time to return to work. She is kind, & caring, after meeting Kim at Canyon Rim Dental im left only to believe that her team must share the same sentiment as her, to help people who come looking for it here. So thank you Kim, it made my day.
